Early in my career, I attended conferences the wrong way. I sat through sessions, ate with familiar faces, and came home with a tote bag and a programme book. I thought showing up was the work. It is not. The conferences that changed the direction of my career were the same format, same duration, same crowded halls. The difference was that I had a strategy going in. A conference does not change your career. Your actions at the conference do.
